ARRIVAL SPACE
Coming Soon
What does it mean to arrive, to return home, to enter a space or to cross a threshold? “In the Japanese tea ceremony the garden path (the roji), which leads to the tea-room, signifies the first stage of meditation - the passage into self-illumination” (The Book of Tea by Kakuzo Okakura). The roji is an arrival space; a dedicated space and place intended to break connection with the outside world. The arrival space signifies a sense of returning - of arriving and also existing - one space into another. This was the concept behind the design; the creation of an arrival space, a crossing of a threshold through the garden path and up the stone steps to the doorway of the home; an in-between space between exterior and interior.
